SquareMeal Review of
The first London branch of a French chain, Big Fernand delivers plump burgers with a Gallic accent in its casual, dual-themed dining spaces. Staff wearing flat caps and plaid shirts add a lived-in touch to the ground floor’s industrial look, while the first floor is decorated like a living room and hosts events such as beer pairings and private parties. Choose beef, chicken, veal, lamb or mushroom as your base, then either take the house options or construct your own masterpiece from the various cheeses, vegetables, herbs and sauces provided. We enjoyed the veal version in an over-sized sesame bun, with oozing Fourme d’Ambert cheese and sweet notes from caramelised onion. Homemade chips arrive with a crunchy salty paprika coating, pairing nicely with a bottle of French beer. Prices are on a par with Byron or Honest Burgers – and Big Fernand delivers locally too.
