SquareMeal Review of
Barbican Lounge & Foodhall
Spread across two floors, the Barbican Lounge & Foodhall is a godsend for show-goers, tourists and locals. The Foodhall itself is a roomy, café-style space with exclusive provisions spread out
on tables and a well-rounded assortment of food to eat in – think confit duck with braised Puy lentils. There’s also a ‘book bank’ where you can buy or borrow the latest fiction. Upstairs is the
all-day Lounge, a smarter affair with Scandinavian-style seating and some terrific alfresco dining areas. The menu offers ‘nibbles’ such as crispy aubergine chips or feta-stuffed piquillo peppers
for those in a rush, plus small plates ranging from lamb and black-olive meatballs in tomato sauce to devilled whitebait with saffron mayonnaise. A pre-theatre menu (5-7pm) offers three small
plates and a pud for £19.95, while the short but snappy wine list delivers the goods.
