SquareMeal Review of
The Bar at 11 Cadogan Gardens
For afternoon tea, light meals and cocktails, the chic lounge at this independent boutique hotel offers a civilised alternative to the noisy, packed bars of Sloane Square. It is set within a grand red-brick Chelsea townhouse, and decked out like an 18th-century English dandy’s sexy study: all moody dark inks, tobacco and golds. There are suave drinks to match – Sazerac, Mai Tai and Whiskey Sour among the classics – and, for balmy evenings, Sipsmith gin jars, chilled Italian Chardonnay, Provençal rosé or Gratiot-Pillière brut NV (house) Champagne, among a fairly priced range by the glass, served on a secluded outdoor terrace. Snack on tiger prawns with curry mayonnaise, chickpea falafel or club sandwich with chips. More substantial dishes include charred tuna steak with peppers and olives, pumpkin risotto and chicken Caesar salad. Follow with the cheeseboard or rhubarb and blood-orange posset at this quintessentially London luxe establishment.
