Squaremeal Review of Balls & Company ?

If nothing will do but a meatball, then this single-minded restaurant from Australian Masterchef finalist Bonny Porter will be right up your (Greek) street: the short menu features five meatball and four sauce choices and sides of chips, spaghetti, mash and vegetables. Our Wagyu balls with tomato sauce were carefully cooked and tender, while plump pork balls combined with ricotta, basil and sage and studded with pine nuts were a highlight, paired with a tangy and thick romesco sauce. An additional specials menu changes at least once a day (on our visit it included mac ‘n’ cheese arancini), the succinct wine list spans the globe and the two good value cocktails we sampled (including Company Ice Tea with agave and red wine) were delicious – this deserves to become a local secret-style basement bar. Balls & Company isn’t exactly groundbreaking but you can expect a light, good-value meal in a relaxing setting: the neutral decor and snug dimensions of the dining room are a perfect fit for the casual, down-to-earth approach of the place.

My new weekly haunt

Please take me back again, and again! This restaurant is best with a group of four so you can get a taste of nearly the whole menu! The fact that the specials change all the time means I can go back frequently and try a few different cocktails each time as well. But I have also been on my lonesome for lunch which was perfect as well! I am loving the new Logan Chardonnay they have on the wine list and the Chipotle Margarita is the perfect hit! My absolute favourite is the Wagyu with Bechemal,...

Balls & Company in Soho – there’s a joke in there somewhere but I’m too respectable for that. Anyhoo, this is Greek Street’s latest opening and it comes from Australian born Bonny Porter (previously of The Arts Club and Village East), who’s attempting to make the ‘humble meatball more refined’.

It’s a small restaurant which was rather loud on our visit, but that does at least dampen down the neighbouring table’s conversation which is never a bad thing. There’s a tiny open kitchen at the end which adds some adventure...

Walking down the street, you can find burgers & lobsters on the left and chicken & steak on the right. Further down will be cereal café, around the corner is porridge café and more. Now to make the appearance of the perhaps a craze of ultra focused restaurant is the humble meatball. Balls & Company, Soho’s first gourmet meatball gaff.

Behind the brain of the kitchen is Australian-born chef Bonny Porter (a finalist on Australian Masterchef, who has worked at The Arts Club and Village East). The restaurant itself will seat 30 on the main floor and 20 downstairs which also have a basement bar. There was a small...
