1 Lombard Street Brasserie 22

SquareMeal Review of 1 Lombard Street Brasserie

Next door to the Lord Mayor’s residence, 1 Lombard Street is firmly established in City diaries – although that’s not all down to the prime location or the handsome proportions of the Grade II-listed former banking hall. The Brasserie is both a habit and a pleasure for the local business community, who enjoy professional-grade people-watching under its high ceilings and Pietro Agostini cupola. Although 1776 (the fine-dining option) is well regarded, there’s nothing like a table in this buzzy all-day space for highly visible celebrations. The food might not steal the show, but standards are more than solid when it comes to crowd-pleasing iterations of Thai beef salad, grilled octopus with romanesco broccoli, veal milanese, no-nonsense steaks and curried fishcakes with lime yoghurt dip. Puddings are traditional standards, tidied up from the nursery and big on British fruit. By necessity, the wine list has got everyone covered, quick lunchers and big spenders included.

I was suprised at how busy it was on a Friday morning but it made for a good atmosphere yet you can still hear each other – so good for a working breakfast. The waiting staff were a little overstretched and whilst the main waiters were charming the coffee waiter seems to struggle with basic orders and it took a while to all have coffee. The food was good, toast was really good but smoked salmon not a touch on the Hawksmoor. The eggs benedict seems to have been reduced to just half of the muffin but was good all the same. A good central business breakfast location.

I enjoyed a faultless corporate lunch here There was an awful lot on this menu that I really wanted to eat and all the dishes that turned up on our table were consistently very good. If the prices were less, I'd have awarded 5 stars across the board

No 1 Lombard Street is beautiful, the food is always good and the service good – can be a little slow which is why I have not rated as excellent – this has always be the same. But if you do have time on your hands then not a problem.

Just eaten in No1 Lombard and to our utter disbelief there was a mouse running around the restaurant. Staff did not seem to 1. Be bothered by this. 2. Felt that an apology was sufficient and that they would call us the next day to let us know what pest control said! Utterly shocking and will not be back. Shame really as often used to pop in on the way home for a quick glass of wine…No more!
