Amazing Evening 25 June 2018

This certainly was a fabulous evening and a delightful way to start our Anniversary Celebration week. The restaurant is set in a lovely quiet location near Reading.and you certainly get a good feel as you enter the grounds as the building looks stunning. We had a warm and friendly greeting on arrival and was asked if we would like to have a drink in the bar or outside on the patio. Due to it being a lovely evening we opted for a drink outside. While enjoying our Gin & Tonic's and a delightful snack you are presented with the menus to browse through. There were two choices of menu to choose from the 7 course Gourmand menu or the one we decided to choose the 10 course Discovery menu. The next thing to choose is the wine but with help from the sommelier who was very helpful in assisting you with your decision and was very good throughout the evening . Their reason for doing it this way I felt was quite a nice idea so when you're seated at the table everything is ready for you to start enjoying your evening. Our table was in the conservatory which was nice and cool and overlooked the patio and garden. So now to our first dish which was very interesting indeed consisting of Carrot pressing , mustard & tarragon with on top of the carrot was Herring ice cream which in fact was delicious and went perfectly with the carrot. We then moved onto a heavenly Confit Trout , elderflower & cucumber before enjoying a stunning Beef Tartare , Charcoal & a Confit Yolk I have to the first three courses were an absolute delight and we were definitely not disappointed with what was to follow starting with a fantastic Lobster Ravioli , Citrus Fruits & Crab Bisque. Our next dish was the main course a Roast Quail Breast , Sweetcorn & Truffle and matched perfectly with the wine highlight of the evening a beautiful ChatteauNeuf Du Pape. It was then time for a Cheese course with a difference consisting of Confit Tomato , Burrata & Watermelon with a Basil Dressing which was delightful and so refreshing Now it was time for desserts and to my delight there were two with the first being Apricot , Pecan & Skyr this really was heavenly but even more so was the Dark Chocolate Pave , Banana & Lime a truly fantastic way to finish We then had a coffee and a lovely after dinner cocktail in the comfort of the the bar with some Petit Fours. This rounded of a marvellous evening and we were so glad we made the trip from east to west. I would highly recommend a visit as the food is stunning the service is very professional and friendly all this in a beautiful building with lovely grounds

Amazing Italian Tapas 17 June 2018

If your looking for a fantastic Italian tapas meal then a visit to Polpetto is a must for your list of places to eat. Set in the heart of the lively Soho area on Berwick Street the restaurant has a nice relaxed & casual Italian feel to it. As you enter the restaurant you'll see that it is long and narrow with the front half consisting of a bar on the left and a seated area on the the right. As you move to the rear there are three booths for Two people on the left with a long bench seat with tables that can easily be rearranged for small or larger parties. The open kitchen is downstairs where you'll also find the chefs table. As the place was quite empty when we arrived we decided to seat in one of the booths but it wasn't long before the restaurant was virtually full which was the first good sign . We started with a cocktail while browsing through the menu where all the dishes looked so appealing but once we had a chat with the waitress about her recommendations we finally made our choice . Our first two courses were an absolute delight a Pea , Asparagus & Ricotta Crostini which was nice and light and refreshing especially as the other course was the amazing Octopus Skewers with Zucchini , Tomato & Rosemary The next few dishes were equally as good and began with a stunning Sea Trout & Aubergine Caponata. We then received a lovely surprise as the chef sent us an extra dish the fabulous Linguine with Crab , Chilli & Samphire. These two dishes went perfectly well with the fantastic Panzanella Salad We then moved on to our final selection of dishes the Lamb Neck with Saffron Risotto & some heavenly Pork & Beef Meatballs together with Zucchini Fries & Focaccia. I have to commend the way the dishes came out in a perfect order so that each section matched It was then time for desserts and they were also delicious a beautiful Orange & Almond Polenta Cake with Mascarpone & a delicious Chocolate Pot which came with Candied Fennel that I was very interested to try and can honestly say it was truly delightful This brought to an end a truly fantastic tapas lunch where we also had the pleasure of meeting Head Chef David a very nice man. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly making this a great place for couples or larger parties and a great menu to suit whether it's for a quick or a nice long pleasant lunch. Therefore I would highly recommend a visit.

Amazing Fish Lunch 04 June 2018

On hearing that Chef Tom Brown was looking for a venue to set up his own restaurant I was very excited to find out where that would be. Then when we heard that it would be in Hackney Wick I was at first a bit surprised but secondly very happy as it wasn't to far away. In fact it's in a great location just one stop from Stratford in an area that is quickly being redeveloped which should be great for the restaurant. Being very keen to visit knowing his back round as Head Chef for Nathan Outlaw and also seeing him on Great British Menu we decided on Saturday to do just that. We got on a train at Romford then just 20 minutes later we're walking out of Hackney Wick station where you immediately see all the redevelopment taking place. Then just a very short walk from the station you arrive at Cornerstone which is set in a quirky little area. As you enter the restaurant there's a nice relaxed & casual atmosphere. We were greeted by one of the staff who were all very friendly throughout our visit. We started with a drink at the bar and it was from there you got a great view of the big open kitchen in front of you with the tables set out at the front and down each side of the kitchen. We were then seated at the side in fact right where Tom was himself which was great and gave you an insight to seeing a chef run his restaurant close up. We was then given the menu and as we expected it was mainly fish in fact nine of the twelve courses which are all sharing plates. Our waiter went through the menu options to help us decide but we just looked at him and said can we have everything which seem to please him so that's exactly what we did. We started with some Sourdough Toast & Coral Butter before enjoying a fabulous Pickled Oysters with celery , horseradish & dill we then enjoyed some delightful Raw Hand Dived Scallops with Tomato before a stunning Cured Monkfish with grape , almond & sherry vinegar The next course was a fantastic Mackerel Pate with seaweed , cucumber & homemade Rye Bread. This was then followed by a beautiful Asparagus dish with smoked cod's roe. We then had an amazing Lamb Shoulder Kiev with anchovy , pea & mint before enjoying a fantastic Potted Shrimp Crumpet with kohlrabi , gherkin & parsley. The final four courses were some of the best fish dishes you could wish to try and we started with a amazing piece of Plaice with lobster , paprika & courgette followed by a fabulous Roast Pollock & cafe de Paris hollandaise. We then had the most fantastic Cider Braised Cuttlefish with lentil , apple & spring onion dressing before our last dish a stunning Ray Wing with a spiced aubergine purée , basil & ginger. Well it has to be said each and every dish was amazing We chose a lovely bottle of organic wine the Macabeo 2017 with its fruity aromas of apricot , Pear & citrus fruits with floral notes that seemed to compliment the dishes quite nicely It was then time for Cheese & desserts as we jokingly said to the waiter that we was going to have everything. There was a nice selection of five cheeses which came with a delicious Saint Kew Chutney & Sourdough Crackers. Before moving onto desserts which were also heavenly and literally a excellent way to finish. The first being a Cornish Burnt Cream with strawberry saffron & ginger. The second was a Chocolate Mousse with raspberry & pistachio bringing to an end a simply amazing lunch After finishing with a coffee it was time to head home but not before having a nice little chat with Tom who came across as a really nice person. He also asked us which was our favourite dish which was the hardest question of the day as they were all a delight and we couldn't reply with just one. This was definitely some of the best fish courses I've had the pleasure of tasting and I'm already looking forward to a return visit. So with the food being amazing the staff so friendly and a nice atmosphere I would highly recommend paying a visit to this restaurant I honestly believe you will not be disappointed

Amazing Sunday Lunch 21 May 2018

This was a real Sunday Lunch treat thanks to the amazing food and excellent service. We first visited Blacklock back in January after hearing so many good things about the place and our experience then was fantastic. While chatting to the manager having said how much we enjoyed everything it was put to us that we must come for a Sunday Lunch. So with that in mind we looked for a space in the calendar and she very kindly booked us in. This took us to yesterday as the day chosen. Our arrival was once again given a friendly welcome and even nicer the fact they remembered us. On looking around the roast dinners looked amazing but we had to be patient. You can choose one of the roasts either Beef , Lamb or Pork but we liked the majority plumped for the All In Sunday Roast which is a mixture of all three meats. We started first though with the two dishes for the table the Pigs Head on Toast & Coal Roasted Scallops with Black Pudding and both were absolutely delicious. Now it was time for the main event the All In roast and oh my god it's stunning. The vegetables & roast potatoes are on the bottom then two of the biggest Yorkshire Puddings sit on top before the beef , lamb & pork is draped over the puddings. We also decided to order two of the sides the Roots & Gremolata as well as the Minted Peas & Horeradish only because we wanted to try as much as we could. Everything is cooked to perfection so succulent & tender just heaven on a plate While enjoying a little rest before dessert I spotted this drinks trolley in the corner which had to decanters on it so when I asked our waiter what they were he said one was a whisky cocktail and the other was the Spring Negroni to which he made us one each and very nice it was to. It was then time for dessert to which they only do one but it is fantastic a homemade White Chocolate Cheesecake with Summer Fruits a dessert lovers dream So there you have it a truly amazing Sunday Lunch comes to an end and who knows when I'll be back. I know one thing it won't be long as the food is fantastic matched equally by the friendliness of each member of staff. Therefore please take my advice if your in London and think where can I get a great Sunday Roast then head to Blacklock for a lunch you won't forget. But please make sure you book as it's very busy on a Sunday
Until next time Thank You All at Blacklock for an amazing Sunday Lunch

Amazing Italian Feast 13 May 2018

Having visited twice before for brunch we were very keen to return and try the Al a Carte Menu so last night that's exactly what we did. The evening got of to a great start as we were there before 7pm so got to have two delightful cocktails for the price of one . We then moved in to the restaurant with a nice greeting from the very friendly staff. Looking at the menu our choice wasn't going to be easy as there were many delicious dishes to choose from and to make it harder you get told about the special.
We decided on the Truffle Burrata , Isle of Wight Asparagus , Quinoa & Summer Truffles and the Scarlet Tiger Prawns Arancini with Tomato , Habanero Chilli & Lime. Both dishes were amazing and a nice Italian white wine to match which was perfectly chosen by the sommelier Following on from our starters we then decided to have a pasta course and this dish was heaven on a plate in fact stunning it was the evenings special a Crab & Tomato Linguine Now it was time for the main courses and in keeping with the fantastic dishes that we'd already enjoyed we were eagerly awaiting what was to come and we needn't have worried as they were both amazing. From the Clay Oven we chose the Wild Halibut , Roman Artichokes , spinach & anchovy aioli and from the Josper the Miso Iberico Pork Neck Nduja with fermented kohl rabi & padron accompanied by excellent side dishes of Burnt Greens with Chilli & Garlic plus some Rosemary Al Forno Potatoes. These dishes were once again matched beautifully with a glass of Italian Red & White wines Cheese & Desserts
As we were in the mood to try as much as possible it was only right to have a cheese course so we shared a nice selection of 5 Italian cheeses before enjoying some delightful Italian ice cream & sorbets Coffee & Petit Fours
A great way to finish was to sample the delights of Italian coffee and fabulous petit fours Summary
This brought an end to a truly amazing Italian feast where I would like to personally thank the chefs & staff as the food and service was excellent so I would definitely recommend a visit whether it's for breakfast , brunch or an Al a Carte evening you will not be disappointed
