Oba Kitchen & Bar in Leeds is an authentic east Asian dining experience with plenty of experience and a storied past with the area, offering a fusion mix of Korean and Japanese dishes, ideal for private dining. You see, this is not Oba's first rodeo - the team behind the restaurant originally started with an Asian food store called Hang Sing Hong on Vicar Lane, before moving into the restaurant business.
It's also worth noting that while Oba serves up Korean cuisine alongside Japanese fusion, just next door you'll find Mi's Noodles, which is actually a sister restaurant, dishing up the best traditional noodles and Chinese snacks in town. As we say, not their first rodeo.
The idea behind Oba's menu is to offer contrasting sides of Asian dining and make these easier to enjoy for foreign palettes. While earthy spices and fermented dishes are signature characteristics of Korean cuisine, the Japanese part of the menu offers diverse tastes and seasonal ingredients in a more sensitive way, allowing the team to show its diners a multitude of its culinary inspirations.
The restaurant's decor has an international feel and has been created with a modern, sleek vibe in mind. With atmosphere and style, it's a great place to hold an event or party, and luckily for you the team love hosting private dining bookings. You'll need to get in touch to confirm space and numbers, but taking over the restaurant and hosting your own special night sounds pretty amazing to us.
In terms of the menu, there's plenty of extensive choice broken down into several sections. Starters include popcorn shrimp with spicy mayo, homemade garlic prawn spring rolls, miso soup and chicken gyoza - among many more. There's also a whole range of sushi and sashimi to choose from, if that's more your thing. For the mains, expect delights like a whole host of bibimbap options, as well as classics like ginger pork belly and salmon teriyaki, as well as yaki soba, too.
