Need somewhere to entertain a group in Orwell’s old stomping ground? We’ve got you covered

Berner's Tavern bar restaurant London

1.Berners Tavern at The London Edition, W1
Capacity 14
Jason Atherton is lord of the manor at one of the most strikingly grand restaurants in town. The dark walnut PDR is slightly more restrained in décor but the food is just as special. Grab a drink in the Punch Bar afterwards.

Hakkasan Sept 2015 8

2.Hakkasan Hanway Place, W1
Capacity 70, 20
Sharing menus make group dining in this restaurant communal. Christian Liaigre’s design sees guests dine among oak lattice screens and traditional decor touches, while the dim sum is the star on the menu.

The Lady Ottoline July 2015 3

3.The Lady Ottoline, WC1
Capacity 45, 14
Dickensian vibes brought this Bloomsbury pub to the front of our minds. The two private rooms – The Morrell Room and The Dining Room – sit upstairs. Our pick is the smaller Morrell – a cosy fireplace makes it ideal for winter gatherings.

House of Ho May 2016 6

4.The House of Ho, W1
Capacity 24, 20, 12, 8, 6
This Vietnamese favourite is a fairly recent addition to Fitzrovia’s food scene. On our trip we loved the multi-level layout of the restaurant’s private dining offering. Our favourite was the Wine Room (6 capacity) for intimate occasions.

5.Brasserie Blanc Charlotte Street, W1
Capacity 40, 14
Part of Raymond Blanc’s popular brasserie chain, this smart bistro is a slice of Gallic cuisine in relaxed environs. The aptly named Hide Out PDR is just that, with the larger Clubhouse space better for semi-private dining.

Iberica generic images Feb 2016 6

6.Ibérica Marylebone, W1
Capacity 30, 25
Michelin-starred exec chef Nacho Manzana holds fort at this outpost of the Spanish chain. The mezzanine space (the Caleya Dining Room) is the spot for groups of 25 diners, who can admire the prettily tiled restaurant below.

Lima restaurant dining eating out London 2016

7.Lima, W1
Capacity 26
This ceviche trailblazer is keeping Peruvian cuisine near the top of the trend list. Its Sotano private dining room is found in the cellar, with blue banquettes and South American furnishings continuing the upstairs decor theme.

Gaucho Charlotte Street

8.Gaucho Charlotte Street, W1
Capacity 12
You can’t miss this outpost of the famous steak restaurant – its main dining room is clad in black and white cowhide. Slightly more muted is the Tasting Room where groups dine among cabinets of wine.
