Bobby Fitzpatrick, West Hampstead

What to order: Blake Swizzle

The lowdown: The 1970s-bedecked party pad that is Bobby Fitzpatrick is stocked with rums from around the globe, but we rather fancy the Blake Swizzle (chilli-spiced rum, triple sec, lime, vanilla, sugar) – best enjoyed in the comfort of a wicker swing seat in Bobby’s plant-festooned lounge.

City Social, City

What to order: Huracan

The lowdown: We’ve all heard of beer goggles, but City Social is taking things up a notch via some snazzy technology. Order the Huracan (Ron Zacapa rum, walnut oil, salted honey, cacao nib bitters) then download the restaurant’s Mirage app and watch the cocktail come to life, thanks to augmented reality software.

Oriole, City

What to order: Culebra Punch

The lowdown: Inspired by global travels, the cocktails at Oriole are real show-stoppers. We particularly love the tropical Culebra Punch, which comes served in a silver turtle-shaped punch bowl and is made from Bacardi eight-year rum, Banks 5 Island Rum, mangosteen and banana ale, kumquat juice and ginger beer.

Oslo, Hackney

What to order: Mai Tai

The lowdown: Although they serve food in the day, Oslo is primarily a bar and live music venue, which means there are cocktails galore. Highlights include the Mai Tai, a refreshing mix of Havana Anejo rum, orgeat syrup, orange curacao, orange juice, lime, pineapple and Wray & Nephew white rum.

Rotunda at Four Seasons Ten Trinity Square, City

What to order: Calm Before Storm

The lowdown: Head to the City’s Four Seasons for a rum cocktail with a touch of class. Its tropical and fruity Calm Before Storm mixes Plantation Original dark rum, lime, pineapple, peppermint and chamomile. Enjoy under the restored dome ceiling for that extra luxury feel.

Rudie’s, Dalston

What to order: Jamaica Nice

The lowdown: Dalston’s Jamaican-themed joint was bound to have a rum cocktail or two on its menu. We like the look of Jamaica Nice, which combines Appleton rum, Koko Kanu coconut rum, orgeat, lime, pineapple and blackcurrant – bottoms up!

Rum Day cocktails London restaurants bars

The Shrub & Shutter, Brixton

What to order: Coconut Old Fashioned

The lowdown: This seemingly casual bar shines with its range of innovative and Instagram-friendly cocktails. The Coconut Old Fashioned remixes the classic sip by adding some sweetness and comes served in a smoking, blow-torched coconut consisting of El Dorado three-year rum, coconut water reduction, hickory Angostura and orange oil – ‘likes’ guaranteed.
