Private dining rooms in London: The best spaces for your event

These days, dining out in London is an everyday occurrence, rather than a special occasion treat. The fact that a casual dinner in a restaurant no longer feels that special anymore means that when it comes to marking special occasions such as a milestone birthday or an engagement dinner, it makes sense to go that one step further and hire a private dining room.

London’s private dining scene is vast and there are restaurants with private rooms everywhere from the glamorous haunts of Mayfair to the hipster-lite eateries in Shoreditch. Private dining rooms aren’t just for people celebrating though, as they’re often also used to host corporate functions such as product launches and business meetings – lunch at a restaurant certainly beats discussing the yearly budget over shop-bought croissants in the office.

Whatever your reason for searching for a private dining room in London, you’ll be glad to know that the capital has options to suit every style, function and budget. To help you get to the bottom of all of the London restaurants with private rooms, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite private dining spots, dividing them up by area to keep things simple.

With a great venue and delicious food sorted, the only thing you’ll need to worry about is the seating plan, but unfortunately, we can’t help you with that one.

Mayfair

It’s no surprise that one of London’s most glamorous postcodes boasts stunning private dining rooms by the dozen. These Mayfair private dining rooms are bound to leave jaws firmly on the floor.

Corrigan’s

Why: The eponymous flagship restaurant of Irish chef Richard Corrigan (who also owns Bentley’s in the same neighbourhood), Corrigan’s has four excellent private dining spaces to choose from. For intimate affairs, the Kitchen Library is a great way to see the inner workings of the kitchen up close. It seats just six guests and sees you placed in the kitchen, served tasting menus by the chefs themselves. Planning something a little bigger? Opt for the Chef’s Table, which boasts clubby interiors and features a glass window into the kitchen.
Where: 28 Upper Grosvenor Street, W1K 7EH

Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester

Why: For sheer romance, it doesn’t get much better than Table Lumiere at Alain Ducasse’s three Michelin-starred restaurant, housed inside the grand dame of London hotels. The space is partially cut off from the buzz of the main restaurant via a luminescent oval curtain, which is decorated with 4,500 shimmering fibre optics which drop dramatically from the ceiling. If you’re after something less intimate, choose the Salon instead, which benefits from high ceilings and plenty of natural light.
Where: The Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane, W1K 1QA

Galvin at Windows

Why: Semi-private dining spaces can sometimes lack the appeal of their totally secluded counterparts, but this area at Galvin at Windows is truly one of a kind. 28 floors high at the Hilton Park Lane, this semi-private space blends in with the main restaurant’s wood and cream colour palette, diverting all the attention to the awe-inspiring view, which overlooks London landmarks such as Park Lane and Hyde Park. The menu here is just as jaw-dropping as the view, featuring hi-spec French-leaning dishes such as foie gras ballotine with date purée, vanilla and dried fig.
Where: 22 Park Lane, W1K 1BE

China Tang

Why: The annual venue for Kate Moss’s birthday lunch, China Tang has some serious celeb pulling power. Why do the stars flock to this old-school Chinese haunt? Well, that would be for the undeniable glamour of the interiors and the accomplished menu of classic Chinese fare. The interiors include vibrant floral-print chairs and hand-carved wooden screens, while the à la carte majors in Peking duck and best-in-class dim sum. Make like Kate and host your next celebration in Pang – the most low-lit and intimate of China Tang’s three private rooms.
Where: 53 Park Lane, W1K 1QA

Soho

This area of London comes with a colourful, vibrant past. Its selection of private dining rooms is just as fun. Check out some of favourite Soho restaurants with private rooms below.

Bob Bob Ricard

Why: Bob Bob Ricard is famous for those ‘press for Champagne’ buttons which you’ve definitely seen on your Instagram feed, and is loved by famous faces and socialites alike. It’s all about blingy interiors and over the top dishes at this popular Soho joint, and the private dining room is no different. Modelled on the Royal Dining Carriage and featuring elaborate wallpaper and a blue colour scheme, dining in the PDR, you can tuck into the decadent likes of a lobster mac ‘n’ cheese, or a chicken, Champagne and mushroom pie.
Where:
1 Upper James Street, W1F 9DF

Why: This trio of restaurants from Aqua London is also home to three private dining rooms. The group’s Japanese offering Kyoto boasts a 10-seater private dining room which is well suited to intimate gatherings, while the Spanish-leaning Aqua Nueva features two 15-seater private rooms, which can be combined to make one large room. The jewel in Aqua’s crown though, is its stunning roof terrace, which can be hired along with the private rooms, and includes enviable views of the London skyline.

For evening events set against London’s twinkling skyline, the menu features an exciting blend of Brazilian, Peruvian and Japanese dishes. It’s suited to daytime business meetings too though, thanks to a projector and AV equipment.

Duck & Waffle

Why: Taking the title of the highest private dining room in the country (just one floor above SUSHISAMBA’s), Duck & Waffle serves a slice of awe-inspiring views alongside sharing menus which champion some of the restaurant’s most loved dishes like its eponymous signature and the ox cheek doughnut. City Social

Why: Unlike some sky-high restaurants, City Social sits among the area’s skyscrapers at 24 floors high, rather than looming high above them. We’d argue that this is part of its charm, as you can actually make out the buildings and people on the streets below. On the menu, you can expect quality best-of-British dishes, such as ribeye steak with duck fat chips, béarnaise and peppercorn sauce. The space also boasts its own lobby, which is ideal for pre-dinner drinks before you sit down to feast.

The 16-seat private dining room features striking patterned wallpaper and a large glass panel which acts as a window into the goings on of the kitchen. If you’re looking to book out the room for a corporate function, the team can include a plasma screen television and other audio-visual elements to help bring your event to life.

Helix at The Gherkin

Why: Searcys outpost at The Gherkin may no longer be the tallest building of the City bunch, but it still offers some of the best views of the capital that you’ll find. The private dining rooms here can be booked out without any hire fee, and are named after clouds. Several of the rooms can be combined to make larger spaces, and the pared-back style of the venue means that these rooms act as a blank canvas, so you can really tailor the table settings and décor to your own individual tastes.

Nobu

What: Nobu may be famous in the US for Kardashian sightings and being namechecked in Drake songs, but at the Shoreditch outpost, it’s the private dining options that we find most exciting. Here, you can book two different semi-private spaces and in the warmer months, the outdoor terrace is also available to hire. While you’re dining here, you can expect to chow down on the likes of pimped-up tacos with fillings such as avocado and caviar or lobster wasabi sour cream, as well as miso black cod and a variety of sushi rolls.
