With high-end restaurants across the world and more Michelin stars than you can shake a soufflé at, there is no doubt that Jason Atherton’s restaurant empire is mightily suited to ‘occasion dining’. It makes sense then, that Atherton is Moët’s UK Brand Ambassador and this winter, he will be running a special Rosé menu in collaboration with Moët at his restaurants City Social, Pollen Street Social and Social Eating House.

The collaboration will run for five weeks from 10 February – perfect timing for Valentine’s Day or Mothering Sunday celebrations. The partnership will see a £145 tasting menu at each location, pairing dishes with the Rosé Grand Vintages 2009, 2004 and 1990. Dishes to choose from at the various locations will include the likes of roast venison loin in smoked butter, and a blackberry, apple and juniper trifle.

Each menu has been designed to showcase the Rosé Grand Vintages. Moët’s latest Grand Vintage Rosé, launched in 2017, is from the 2009 harvest, which Moët & Chandon chef de cave Benoît Gouez describes as “an exceptional year”, which resulted in “a complex and charismatic wine that opens up to us, and shows obvious maturity. The combination of an ideal climate and a moderate yield created conditions for a high degree of ripeness both in terms of sugar and acidity, with neither in excess.”

There are now very limited quantities of the 2004 and particularly 1990 wines, brought specially on this occasion from Moët’s cellars, in magnum.  The 1990 in particular is a real treat – a powerful and deeply complex wine from one of the great years, showing nuances of baked brioche and a mocha-inflected richness.
