On 23 June, key figures in the ICC Wales project officially marked the start of the two year job by digging soil on site. When the landmark convention centre opens in June 2019, it’ll be home to 4,000sq m of pillar free space, a tiered auditorium for 1,500 guests and 12 meeting rooms.
The sustainable slate building will be located just off the M4 at the
Celtic Manor Collection with a capacity for up to 5,000 delegates and an accompanying 2,000 car parking spaces. Yep, it’s going to be big. In fact, the total floor space for events will be equivalent to nearly four international rugby pitches.
We’re particularly excited to see how ICC Wales will incorporate the green spaces surrounding the centre into its offering. Already announced are outdoor terraces on all levels and direct bridge access to the woodland from Level 1. Plus, it’ll have a double-height glass atrium, a 2,500sq m plaza and plenty of daylight in all the meeting rooms and the main hall.
For Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones the ICC is, ‘vital to fulfilling our ambition of making Wales a leading international destination for business.’ For delegates travelling from outside the country, Cardiff Airport is nearby and those attending a conference via train can utilise exclusive rates with GWR from London Paddington to Newport, a 15-minute taxi ride away.
After a busy day networking, there are ample options for delegates to lay their head nearby or on site at the
Celtic Manor Collection.
The first event has already been booked in for July 2019, meaning the builders had better hop to it.
