From 19-24 July, Italian beer maestro Birra Moretti is bringing its Italian food festival to the Old Truman Brewery in Shoreditch. A range of regional Italian dishes will be on offer from nine brilliant Italian street food vendors, including:
Just Fab: Vegan interpretations of Sicilian food, including polenta muffins and pumpkin vellutata.
Pasta e Basta: Experts in Calabrian cuisine, this is the place for bucanti (thick, hollow spaghetti) with n’duja spicy sausage, as well as fusilli with red pepper from Calabria, basil, pecorino and chilli pesto.
Pizza Pilgrims: These guys started in a pizza van and now have four restaurants in London, all spinning out Neapolitan-style, crispy-based pizzas.
Tongue ‘n Cheek: Modern twists on Italian classics, including burgers stuffed with beef, spicy n’duja sausage, smoked Provola cheese from Casilli and pickled red onions.
The Moretti Gran Tour also features two bookable dining experiences. The first is a series of Tuscan butchery experiences with Peckham’s Forza Win, with attendees being taught the basics of butchery (with plenty of food and beer, naturally). For something a bit gentler, there will also be pasta masterclasses with CinCin from Brighton.
If all of this inspires you to have a go at home, you can also shop at the accompanying Italian market for a range of Italian produce.
The Moretti Gran Tour arrives at the Old Truman Brewery from Tuesday 19 (8pm-10.30pm) to Sunday 24 July, from 11am until 10.30pm every day. Entry is free, while the butchery and pasta-making classes cost £15 per person and can be booked via the Moretti Gran Tour website.
