As permanent a fixture on the winter dining scene as Brussels sprouts and turkey, the Street Smart campaign is an annual charity drive for the homeless that takes place in November and December.
And you don't have to dole out soup like the five chefs pictured - Anna Hansen from The Modern Pantry, Jeremy
Bloor from Oxo Tower, Jacob Kenedy from Bocca Di Lupo, Jeremy Lee from Blueprint Café and Giorgio Locatelli from Locanda Locatelli (left to right). Diners visiting restaurants across 18 cities throughout the UK during the two months
are just asked to donate £1 on top of their bill, to go towards helping the homeless.
Following the impressive figure of £435,000 raised in the 2008 campaign, this year Street Smart, now in its 11th year, expects around 600 restaurants nationwide to join in the campaign. Hundreds of
the capital’s restaurants are taking part, from newcomers such as Aqua Nueva and Aqua Kyoto, through to celebrated mainstays of the dining scene like Maze, Hibiscus, Pied à
Terre and Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley, and popular local haunts such as Hereford Road and Racine.
All profits go to helping homelessness in the same city that the funds were raised. For more information or to find participating restaurants, visit Street Smart’s website.
