Now that winter is in full swing, there’s no better time to appreciate the warming qualities of Indian food.

Head to one of London's top Indian restaurants (listed below) to enjoy the best curries, biryanis and tandoori-grilled meat and fish on offer. And when you do bear in mind that as Indian food becomes more sophisticated, so too does what people drink with it. Slugging back a beer is no longer the only way to accompany a curry. Indian restaurants have increasingly good wine lists, and a good bet is those from Alsace in eastern France. From mellow Riesling and light and fruity Pinot Blanc to full-bodied Gewürztraminer and soft, full Pinot Gris, Alsace wines have good acidity and low tannin levels to enhance and complement the flavours of spicy food.
