Mayfair’s Sketch is in bloom

Sketch Lecture room Chelsea Flower Show 2016

Mayfair institution Sketch is well-known for its flamboyant decor but considering what they’ve got planned, you ain’t seen nothing yet…

From 17-29 May, to coincide with RHS Chelsea Flower Show (Tuesday 24-28 May; preview Tuesday 17-22 May), five exhibitors will install their show gardens at the restaurant, all at the same time. From a wild ‘hinterland’ entrance to a rose-filled romantic hideaway, different rooms within Sketch will be given over to the creative whims of these gardening experts.

The main event will take place in the Champagne Pommery Lounge, which will feature an enchanted forest, an upside-down meadow, a suspended garden, and its own signature cocktail, The Dame of Roses (a blend of rose liqueur, Hendrick’s gin, lemon juice and rhubarb bitters). Here, guests can also enjoy a tasting of two of Pommery’s fittingly fruity Champagne styles: the 2004 Pommery Cuvée Louise and the 2004 Pommery Cuvée Louise Nature.

Sketch’s two-Michelin-starred flagship, the Lecture Room & Library, will offer a three-course lunch to precede the tasting (£40 without Champagne; £80 with Champagne). And of course, down in the Gallery, a floral afternoon tea complete with live classical music will complement the natural theme (23-29 May, £68; 17-22 May, £45).
