This year, native Liverpudlian and former Hix chef Terry Edwards, Yorkshire-born food enthusiast George Craig, and food writer and blogger Chris Harding – who collaborate under the name Check On –
will bring the best of British food to London diners.
To kick things off, the trio’s mission is to stage The Northern Invasion, during which they will cook their own interpretations of the dishes they grew up with.
The five-course menu will start with crispy ham hock served with pea mousse and pea shoots, followed by Lancashire hotpot terrine; (shell)fish and chips (pictured); toad-in-the-hole with
shepherd's-pie mash; and, finally, a trio of desserts from ‘up north’.
The first event has already sold out, but tickets are still available for the next event, which takes place at Patty & Bun on 4 March. Tickets cost £37.50; to book your place, visit The Northern Invasion’s ticket site.
Over the course of the year, Check On will pop up at various London venues to cook and serve gourmet meals themed around different aspects of British food, from big breakfasts to roast chicken –
