It’s hard to believe that restaurant-scene stalwart St John only ran its first wine-tasting dinner back in June of this year. Obviously, it was a smash hit – so owners Trevor Gulliver and Fergus Henderson have organised two more for autumn, both happening in September.
The first dinner will take place on 10 September at St John Bakery Rooms, on Maltby Street, and wine enthusiast Trevor will concentrate on wines from the Loire Valley, including a 2013 Pouilly-Fumé Les Cornets from A Cailbourdin, which won an IWC silver award. The second will take place on 21 September at St John Bread & Wine in Farringdon, and will see Trevor recommending seasonal wines to take diners into the autumn and winter months, such as a 2014 Sancerre rosé by François Crochet.
Fergus will be at the stoves, providing guests with a typically St John menu – four courses including, say, crispy pig’s cheek with dandelion, or roast sirloin with beetroot and horseradish, at the Bakery Rooms event, and the likes of native rock oysters or pig’s head pie at the Bread & Wine event.
Tickets to both events cost £95. To book your place at the Bakery Rooms Loire wine dinner, email firstname.lastname@example.org. To book your place at the seasonal wine event at Bread & Wine, email email@example.com.
