Italy meets England wine dinner at Caravaggio

Sophisticated City Italian Caravaggio is hosting an indulgent evening of food and fine wine at its Leadenhall Street restaurant on Wednesday 5 February. Across four courses, a quartet of classic English dishes will be presented, each paired with one or two carefully selected Italian wines chosen by engaging head sommelier Luigi Buonanno. Among the pairings are a dish of smoked haddock and quail’s egg to start, matched with a Trento Perle Blanc de Blancs from Trentino (2007); braised beef cheeks with parsnip purée, paired with a Brunello di Montalcino Il Poggione from Tuscany (2008; and a classic Eton Mess served with a sweet Salice Salentino Aleatico dessert wine from Apulia (2006. The four-course meal, along with six matched wines, water and coffee, costs just £60 per person. The evening kicks off at 6.45pm with drinks in the bar area, followed by dinner from 7.30pm. The price is all-inclusive, though a discretionary service charge of 12.5% will be added to the bill.
