Shaftesbury Avenue’s Japan Centre is turning 40 in July and to celebrate, the specialist food hall is hosting a series of free, ticketed masterclasses, as well as other tastings and promotions from 10-24 July.
Free saké, Sunday 10 July: Japan Centre relatives Shoryu Ramen and Ichiryu will both be offering free saké to all diners.
Saké, Monday 11 July: This masterclass will introduce attendees to Japan’s national drink, including how to serve and savour it.
Miso, Wednesday 13 July: MasterChef finalist Andrew Kojima will make a guest appearance to lead this class on cooking with miso and the power of umami.
Matcha, Monday 18 July: Find out all about the intricacies of uber-trendy matcha (powdered green tea) at this workshop.
Sushi, Wednesday 20 July: Sushi master Kim Yukawa will be on hand to teach you how to roll like a pro.
