Athinagoras Kostakos to cook at The Capital

Celebrated Greek chef Athinagoras Kostakos will take charge of the kitchens at The Capital from 6-10 March – a first for the hotel, which has never before welcomed a guest chef to its kitchens.

Kostakos is best known in his home country as the winner of Top Chef, the Greek version of the hugely successful American reality TV series of the same name, in which leading chefs compete against each other in a series of challenges. However, he has also been head chef at the Bill & Coo boutique hotel, on the island of Mykonos, since 2009; his restaurant won the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Best Hotel Restaurant award in 2010.

During his week-long tenure at The Capital, Kostakos will prepare some of his signature dishes, including honey-roast cherry tomatoes with goats’ cheese, crispy capers and thyme-and-olive-oil foam; native lobster with orzo, flavoured with ouzo and extra-virgin olive oil; and roast rack of lamb with a Myconian herb crust and braised lamb-shoulder baklava.

Prices start at £29.50 for the three-course set menu. Three courses à la carte cost £50 at dinner, while the tasting menu costs £70.

The Capital’s bar manager, Cesar da Silva, will create a Greek-themed cocktail, called a Greek odyssey (a mixture of blood orange, lime, ouzo and gin), to complement Kostakos’ menus. A selection of fine Greek wines will also be available.
