Whether you're planning an intimate birthday dinner, an anniversary celebration or a relaxed gathering with friends, The Anchor Ripley offers a warm, welcoming setting paired with seriously good food. Located in the heart of Ripley Village, this Grade II-listed gem combines centuries-old character with thoughtful modern cooking, making it a standout choice for private hire in Surrey.
With its 15th-century charm, original beams and low ceilings, The Anchor creates a cosy atmosphere for events that feel both special and personal. The main area of the restaurant seats up to 24 guests, but thanks to its open-plan layout, the entire space can accommodate up to 44 across adjoining rooms – ideal for groups who want space to mingle while keeping a convivial, connected feel. In the warmer months, the courtyard comes into its own, seating up to 21 guests for outdoor dining or up to 40 for drinks and canapés.
What sets The Anchor apart is its refreshingly flexible hire model – there’s no separate room hire fee. Instead, you’re simply asked to meet a minimum spend, tailored to the time of year, service and space used. You'll receive an itemised bill as usual, and if your total falls short of the agreed spend, you just pay the difference. A 25% deposit secures the date and is deducted from your final payment.
The five-course tasting menu is ideal for celebratory dining. It starts with rosemary and sea salt sourdough, smoked salmon tartlets, and a complimentary glass of Greyfriars sparkling wine. Seasonal dishes like asparagus with chive waffle and béarnaise set the tone, followed by a choice of fish and main courses, including roast duck or veal escalope. Dessert is a showstopper: milk chocolate and hazelnut Arctic roll with raspberry gel. Wine, cocktail and mocktail pairings are available to elevate the experience even further.
