It’s starting to feel like summer and there have been a slew of alcohol-focused, alfresco openings. Here are five of our favourite (hiccup)
1. A champagne deck at Sunborn London
Want to drink champagne on a super yacht? Of course you do. Floating hotel Sunborn London has teamed up with Laurent-Perrier to launch its champagne deck for summer. Until 3 September, groups of 50 can take it over exclusively for cocktails (we like the sound of Le Fizz – St Germain, fresh lemon and Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée) canapés like crab and lobster arancini, and views over the city. Got a bigger group? The deck’s attached to the indoor Sky Lounge and together they can take 150 guests.
2. The Secret Herb Garden at The Royal Horseguards Hotel
It was the former home of MI6 founder Sir Mansfield Cummings, so it’s only right that The Royal Horseguards Hotel’s summer popup is a bit hush hush. The Secret Herb Garden can be taken over by groups of 50 who fancy Thames views with their booze. The drinks? Cocktails mixed by the hotel team and experts from Fever-Tree, garnished by guests with lavender, rosemary, mint and more fresh herbs from the garden. A menu of small and sharing plates includes the likes of harissa and mint lamb cutlets and a mediterranean platter should soak things up. Masterclasses will also be an option – keep your ears to the ground.
3. A Rum Garden at Rotunda
The King’s Cross venue has teamed up with Havana Club to bring Cuba canal side. Deck chairs and bright colours should get groups in the mood while they drink chocolate orange rum old fashioneds and breakfast daiquiris. Exclusive private parties can be organised for 20-250 guests with barbecue and rotisserie packages on offer. Starting at £40pp, they include dishes like as ginger, lime and chilli tiger prawns, and cajun-spiced Texel lamb fillets. Cool Kilner jars of rum punch or a ‘Make your own Mojito’ bar can also be added for extra party vibes
4. The Den Terrace at St Martins Lane Hotel
Like rum? Head to WC2 where the St Martins Lane Hotel has palled up with Bacardi An~ejo Cuatro to bring the Caribbean to Covent Garden until 30 September. Groups of 80 can expect palm trees, ferns, cacti, banana trees and, of course, plenty of rum. An exclusive drinks list features the likes of Cuatro Air Mail, comprising Bacardi Cuatro rum, champagne, honey, lime and a dash of orange. Afternoon teas will even include additions like Piña Colada Cake (hello).
5. A gin terrace at Angler
If you’ve not tried the gin that comes out of the Cotswolds Distillery, you can this summer at D&D London’s Angler. The restaurant has launched a summer bar in collaboration with the brand on its rooftop terrace as part of the group’s Blossom City Campaign. Groups of up to 200 are promised the feel of the countryside in the City (and hanging baskets) as the team mix six special cocktails. We like the sound of The Cotswold G&T – a muddle of Cotswolds gin, fig syrup, basil, lime and Mediterranean tonic. Having a Michelin star, the restaurant has also tied in a herbal bar snack menu with grilled flatbread, lemon verbena pesto and garden herb cream sounding the most exciting.
