Autumn offers lots of options for marquee and temporary structure use. Ascot Structures was approached at short notice by the team behind Portsmouth’s Oktoberfest last September, when the original temporary-structure provider pulled out of the project.

In just four weeks, the company conducted a structural engineering survey of the site in the city’s Guildhall Square and went on to create a structure using three interlinked tents. Not only were they wind- and weather-tight with bespoke infill panels and purpose-built guttering, but the tents even enclosed the square’s statue of Queen Victoria for the first time.

Winter may be thought of as downtime for temporary structures, but it’s anything but, says Eventist’s Jon Noonan. ‘We’re experiencing an uplift in enquiries for autumn and winter. In some cases, we’ve been providing temporary winter structures for longer than those used for summer festivals.’ Eventist provides for more than 230 Christmas parties, hosting around 190,000 guests.

Fews Marquees emphasises the flexibility of its venues by catering for F1 team Sahara Force India’s summer and winter requirements with essentially the same kit. For the summer British Grand Prix, it delivered a bespoke environment for 1,000 guests – but with different dressing, the structure was transformed for a glam Christmas party on the same Silverstone site, where the team is based.
