OPENS EARLY 2020
News of this latest venture from restaurant powerhouse D&D London is so hot off the press, it remains cloaked in a certain amount of mystery. The gigantic new restaurant/bar/events space has yet to be named, but we do know that it will occupy the historic Friary building on Quakers Friars piazza in Bristol’s shopping hub Cabot Circus, and that it’s due to be completed by early next year.
The new space is yet another exciting project for the prolific group, which now owns a staggering 42 restaurants and an award-winning hotel across six cities, and whose recent openings in Leeds and Manchester reflect its ongoing commitment to expansion outside of the capital. The development will be D&D’s second with Hammerson – the property development and investment company it worked with to bring Leeds restaurants Issho and East 59th in 2017 – who has said it’s thrilled to have secured the group’s first venture in the South West. Little else is known about the new space, other than that it is set to include extensive private dining facilities and a large outdoor terrace in addition to restaurants and bars (plural).
Given the diversity of D&D’s repertoire, it’s difficult to predict what it will do with the unique eighteenth-century space, but if it’s anything like its existing restaurants, it’s sure to deliver exceptional food, design and service. D&D has shown with its most recent undertakings, that of 20 Stories in Manchester and the hotly-anticipated new high-rise restaurant/bar 14 Hills in the City, that it’s committed to providing guests with everything they could want, from spectacular views to colourful interiors, plenty of greenery and a pleasing mix of healthy and indulgent dishes and drinks to choose from. Here’s hoping this new restaurant and events space in Bristol follows suit.
