Bar 1790 at The Sandeman Quarter

About Bar 1790 at The Sandeman Quarter

Hosting a special event in central London? Well, have you considered the oldest, most historic part of the capital as the backdrop for your occasion? Among the winding streets of the City of London you'll find The Sandeman Quarter, a restaurant, bar, members lounge and private dining space, all under one name.

The name is inspired by the venue's predecessor, George Sandeman, who travelled from Perthshire to London in 1790 to start his own wine merchants, bottling and blending wines, ports and sherries from Spain and Portugal. His business continued for 200 years, only closing in 1976, but now this multi-purpose venue is honouring his legacy once again.

At its heart is Bar 1790 which pays homage to George's original passion and serves up an immaculate list of wines, ports and sherries alongside a tapas-based food menu. The Don, previously a well-known restaurant in the area before closing, has also been reopened under this umbrella. Both spaces are available for large bookings but if you'd prefer something a little more exclusive, then get to know The Sandeman Quarter's private dining areas.

First up, is the Medieval wine cellar. If you've come to The Sandeman because you too share a love of wine, this space will be an instant hit and not least because of its historic past, rustic charm and ambience. The exposed brick walls, curved ceiling and decorative vintage posters feel a little like stepping back in time. Down the centre sits a grand table, complemented by luxe dining chairs, perfect for a dinner party or special supper.

Otherwise, take a look at The Sandeman Room. Antique wine equipment is displayed for an authentic feel, juxtaposed with industrial pendant lighting and a bold, but grand, colour scheme. This room certainly packs a punch and would make for a wow-worthy setting for any party. Between these rooms is capacity for between 10 and 120 people, depending on the style of event.
