SquareMeal Review of Thaikhun Aberdeen

Bangkok street food is the deal at Thaikhun (pronounced ‘tycoon’) – a cool, funky all-day canteen from the owners of the luxurious Chaophraya chain. Designed like a shack with a wooden frontage, folksy interiors, foodie carts and lanterns, it specialises in platters of grilled and fried meats and vegetables, plus soups, noodles and curries served in bowls for sharing. Top calls from the open kitchen could include classics such as moo ping (grilled pork skewers) and look chin gai (steamed and grilled chicken balls), as well as larb salads with roasted rice, sea bass wrapped in banana leaves, and stir-fried morning glory with bean paste and bird’s-eye chillis. As for drinks, expect Thai beers, wines and cocktails with exotic twists – check out the Asian mojitos with coconut cream and coriander. There are also plenty of options for those who want to ‘grab and go’.
