About

Gaucho’s glitzy black, white and cowhide livery won’t be to everybody’s taste, but its faithful all-Argentinian offer has no shortage of admirers. Most diners head straight for ‘the beef’, where sumptuous chateaubriands and rib-eyes from grass-fed cattle can tip the scales at 800g. The more traditional cuts including skirt, flank and picaña (rump cap) are a speciality, with sampler plates available for the undecided, who want to try a little bit of everything without committing.

The Birmingham branch of the plush steak joint is situated in the heart of the city centre, just across from the Cathedral Square. Surrounded by the buzz of the lively town, it is easy to get to from Snow Hill station, Gaucho is a great choice for an intimate, indulgent dinner. There is a private dining room available for 14 people, and the event space is available for exclusive hire.

As a self-appointed ambassador of Argentinian culinary culture in the UK, Gaucho also promotes rustic empanadas and sausages in addition to lighter ceviches and tiraditos, while sticky, sweet dulce de leche naturally crops up on the dessert menu in various guises (ice cream, cheesecake, pancakes etc.)

The wine list digs deeper, bringing over ‘super Malbecs’ and exclusive ‘new generation’ producers for the beef-chomping brigade; with Argentinian specials such as Domaine Chandon Brut, Arte de Argento, and Pasarisa Torrontes. The company has its own vineyard in Mendoza, producing wines to complement the food, with the assistance of one of Argentina’s leading wine makers.

For the breakfast aficionados, there’s also an exciting Electro Brunch Feast to motivate you to wake up on the weekends, featuring the likes of apple pancakes topped with a dulce mousse, and socially acceptable steak for brekkie. Wash down the eggs and smashed avos with Bloody Marys and Cinnamon Coladas, to round off the brunch experience.

Its not just the glamorous relaxed ambience that makes me come back again and again. It is the staff that makes you feel relaxed. Might it be for a full course meal or just for coffee , an excellent cocktail - your casual beer. Whatever might be the case of your visit you will always feel welcome and appreciated. I like the Europeen/ German kitchen. It is hearty, delicately done and always a surprise. Personally I just like to sit at the bar with a good friend and watch the Ambience and People, there us something 1920ies about it.
