SquareMeal Review of B&H Buildings

Bronze Award

The folk at Bourne & Hollingsworth are London nightlife fixers, garnering column inches for their vintage-themed events (such as Blitz Party and the Chap Olympiad), while dispensing extravagant cocktails from their venues across town. In its imposing corner building behind Exmouth Market, this expansive all-day bar and brasserie is the group's third and most ambitious venue to date. It's a fresh, funky and flexible space – "very quaint and white", with a chintzy plant-filled dining room and a retro cocktail lounge boasting a 50s-style showpiece bar. Here, B&H's bartenders rummage through the kitchen cupboard to create imaginative drinks ranging from Gardener's Jasmine Royale or Burnt Butter Old Fashioned with maple syrup and vanilla to Aperol Fizz with passion fruit, lemon and egg white. Everyone talks about the Saturday brunch, with its "bottomless" Bloody Marys and Bellinis.

Very disappointing

The staff were welcoming and the dinning room was light and airy.

The wine list was very poor and overpriced.

Three of our party ordered rib eye steak. None were cooked properly. The other food was average.

We arrived before 8pm and the ladies toilets were already a mess. They looked like nightclub toilets at the end of the night with overflowing sanitary bins and dirty toilets. I noted there were no women staff, so I can only assume none of the staff had used them.

A great place to while away an afternoon and evening!
I went here with some friends last Saturday for brunch and bottomless bellini's/bloody mary's. The actual restaurant is in a really random location around the back of Clerkenwell but we were pleasantly surprised on entering at how lovely the inside was. It is all very white and quaint and filled with plants and looked very fresh but somehow funky. The majority of us opted for bottomless bellinis with one friend having the bloody mary's - the drinks were well made and refreshing and the bloody mary nice and spicy but they were all a little on the weak side (probably as people go through so many in the bottomless time slot) - however the waiter did top us up with prosecco a few times although I'm not completely sure he was supposed to! For food we all either went for the potato hash with smoked salmon from the brunch menu or the poached eggs on muffins with various toppings - the portions were good sizes for the price, although the food was a little heavy and stodgy. After our 2-hour table time slot, we were moved to a table in the bar and ended up staying drinking in the bar until 10pm that night....a considerable time later bearing in mind our brunch reservation was at 12.30pm! The staff were really attentive and nice and the atmosphere was great I would definitely go back to the bar and perhaps the restaurant but I don't think I would go for the brunch again because of the weak drinks and stodgy food.

Loved it!
I think I may have found my local favourite. This is just off Exmouth Market (a bit like being off Strip in Vegas if you've ever been) but what a great place. I went for Sunday brunch. Good selection of brunch usuals plus all day breakfast options. They also do a bottomless Bloody Mary and Bellini. Both excellent. The downside is the service. They took a full 15 minutes to take our drinks order which I didn't understand as they had a lot of staff wandering around. That was all forgiven once the food arrived. And our waiter kept our drinks topped up. The ambience reminds me of New York although maybe not quite. Either way if you closed an eye you could be anywhere apart from London. I will be coming back. Great place.
