Following the success of the original West in Glasgow’s iconic Templeton building, the owners have set up a new outlet in a one-time drinking den on the corner of Woodlands Road. ‘Glaswegian heart, German head’ remains the motto, and this single-minded venture follows the principles of the Reinheitsgebot (German Beer Purity Law) when it comes to sourcing ingredients and producing its ales – water is from Loch Katrine, malts from Bamberg and hops from Hallertau, while the yeasts are a trade secret. Classics such as St Mungo lager, Hefeweizen wheat beer and West 4 will be joined by other specialist brews including Woodlands Red (matured in Skallywag whisky barrels). Note that the new venue is currently running as a pop-up, with a full launch expected in November 2014 following an extensive refurbishment of the interior.
