A perfect place to sample local ales, this friendly, open-plan boozer sits two miles north of Abergavenny, close to the distinctive Skirrid mountain. On a sunny day, the best place to enjoy the
views is from the flower-bedecked patio. Run by Steve and Cherrie Chadwick, the inn prides itself on great service – so expect a warm welcome, bags of historic charm and a superb selection of
beers. The pub offers up to five hand-pumped ales and ever-changing guests (perhaps Wye Valley Hereford Pale Ale, or Rhymney Bitter), plus at least one brew tapped straight from the barrel in the
summer. The food is standard pub grub done well – try the homemade pâté followed by steak and ale pie, a home-cooked ham platter, or rib-eye steak with red wine jus.
