About

Some folk believe that Milkwood Road – just opposite this rather butch bar and kitchen – inspired the title of the 1950s drama Under Milk Wood, as its author Dylan Thomas was a regular at The Half Moon nearby. Thomas, a legendary boozer, would doubtless have enjoyed a brunch-time sharpener of Bloody Mary (made with a horseradish and bacon-infused vodka), possibly followed by Old Boy (a Woodford Reserve bourbon and mezcal Manhattan) and then Brandy Bakewell, a self-indulgent sip that tastes more sweet than tart. The wine list is also worthy of consideration, as are the draught ales that feature craft brews from Norwood’s London Beer Factory. Stomach-liners include eggs any-style or full English breakfast, along with lunchtime dishes of cod and cured salmon fishcakes or wild mushroom ravioli. Supper then ups the ante, incorporating the likes of swordfish with a plantain galette. A 20-seater cinema, ‘Under Milkwood’, is available for hire.
