The cramped layout, jazzy lighting and prosaic decor, bar a few arty prints on its inky black walls, will be familiar to those unfortunate enough to have endured these louche catacombs’ stint as (deservedly) ill-fated nightclub Miabella. The ‘takeover’ in question is, perhaps surprisingly, by the people behind endearing Mayfair/St James’s wine bars Shepherd Market Wine House and Pall Mall Fine Wine; the owners operating on a lease that expires in early 2017 ahead of the site’s redevelopment. Craft beers on rotation are the focus here, with cheap-by-Soho-standards £8 cocktails – Dark & Stormy, Southside (a close cousin of the Gimlet), Old Fashioned, etc – thrown in for good measure. At a small hatch bar, a dispense wall’s dozen or so taps include Beavertown Neck Oil, Gipsy Hill Southpaw and one each for white, red, rosé wine and fizz. Open until 3am (10pm on Sunday) – free membership cards secure admission post-10pm – the bar grooves to a mashy mix that covers all manner of dance beats. The venue is also available for private hire and pop-up nights, with finger food available by pre-order.
