There's something for everyone at this bar, restaurant, ‘grand café’ and late lounge rolled into a warren-like 19th-century building in the Lanes. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea are served in the cosy snugs and mezzanine library on the ground floor; better still, head upstairs to the Veuve Clicquot roof terrace for a glass of fizz and some fresh air. As the sun goes down, the music is turned up and the island bar becomes the main focus. Smartly dressed twentysomethings sip cocktails such as Brighton rock clover (Cognac, pêche de vigne, fresh raspberries and a piece of seaside ‘rock’) while lining their stomachs with comfort food from the all-day menu (burgers, steaks and pasta). There's live jazz on Thursday nights, while late-night revellers strut their stuff on the dance floor of the swish third-floor cocktail bar-cum-club at the weekend.
