SquareMeal Review of Yalla Yalla - Green's Court

Bronze Award

A welcome find down a jazzy old passageway between Berwick Street and Brewer Street, natty-looking Yalla Yalla serves ‘Beirut street food’ from a counter laden with baked goods. As well as falafel, shawarma and spicy potato or sausage wraps, there are savoury manaee’sh pastries with spinach or wild thyme and sumac, plus cherry or fig tarts. Bag a rustic wooden table and share some ‘highly affordable’ mezze, and ‘amazing, fresh and tasty’ mains such as charcoal-grilled minced lamb skewers (aka kafta meshoué) or marinated king prawns. Wines from the Bekaa Valley, including Château Kefraya, come in at around £5 a glass; otherwise, fruit juices (pomegranate, carrot, apple/mint/ginger) are available for refreshment. Be sure to book ahead or be prepared to wait, since it’s tiny and very popular.

Absolutely love the food here, such a selection on your plate at one time. Service was prompt and courteous. Highly recommend to workers in the area if you're looking for something different for lunch.

A detail overlooked
I went into Yalla Yalla for lunch. I have always wanted to go as I’ve been told it’s a great place, but was left disappointed. The lamb was lovely and I do believe they make excellent food but a few bits of detail need to be addressed! Avoid sitting on the benches which surround the main area upstairs - they can only be described as the most uncomfortable seating in the whole of London! The cushions( if you can call them that) do not measure up with the bench, which might leave people prone to sliding off. The tasty salad I ordered had a pool of water at the bottom of the bowl, and when adding it to my main plate, my Lamb Shwarma was very nearly soaked (god forbid). Luckily I managed to take action before the wrap became soggy, phew! To top it off I then fell down the stairs. I must point out that there is a sign warning you to mind your way, as the stairs are very narrow but I just thought I'd point it out to anyone who isn’t very steady on their feet. Conclusion: Go there to get take away and if you order the salad make sure it doesn’t come with the Mediterranean sea!

Great Lebanese street food restaurant down an alley in Soho. I went near my birthday this year and we and all the classics – moutabel/baba ganouj, tabbouleh, some great houmous with schwarma and some other dishes. Intimate feeling with friendly staff.

Don't let the price-less menu on the website fool you into thinking this is one of those places where if you need to know the prices, you can't afford it. This Beirut street food cafe is in fact highly affordable. The slow and cheerless service was offset by the fantastic mezze, which included an astoundingly generous portion of tiger prawns, calamari and whitebait on a bed of deep fried aubergine. Always one to judge a middle eastern restaurant by its hummus (or hamos, hommos, hommus, homos, houmous, hummos, hummous, or humus, depending on where you hail from), this place passed the test. It was only a shame they were all out of marinated grilled lamb skewers as the little bit of lamb we had as part of the mixed grill was tender and flavoursome. The bill for a hearty quantity of food and a bottle of beer each came to £15 per person. I'll be going back.

I loved Yalla Yalla, the food and service was excellent and all for a really reasonable price. If you go you must try the sauteed chicken livers, the semelina dessert with rose water ice cream is amazing! Can't wait to go back and have the dessert again!

Yalla Yalla was a fantastic find in an alley off Brewer Street in Soho. The menu is Beirut street food and it was some of the best Lebanese food we have eaten. Both the mains of Shish Taouk (marinated chicken skewers) and Kafta Meshoue (minced lamb and parsley skewers) were full of flavour, perfectly cooked and well presented with a sumac onion salad and vermicelli rice. They were also brilliant value for money. The restaurant is small but the atmosphere on our visit was perfect. It was helped along by the friendly service and a great selection of music at just the right level. On thing you definitely need to do is to book in advance. There is only seating for a couple of dozen people and this place has already become very popular. A steady stream of people without reservations was being turned away during our visit.

was at Yalla Yalla on Thursday dinner, the place was full, and we did not have a reservation but we were the lucky ones and the waitress told us to wait around 10-15 min and we will get a table, and thats exactly what have happened… the food is amazing, so fresh and tasty, friendly and helpful waitress too. the place is small (only 9 tables) so its better to book for future… but is worth the waiting time, going back again for my birthday party:)) the big advantage is that they do sell shisha during day which is great, because no other place does it in Soho!!! The best new restaurant in London, since long time,,,, very good value for money.
