Better at MacDonald's
Bill’s Restaurants started in Lewes where it remains, a large warehouse filled with the stink of bad food and damp tourists. Sadly, it came about a year ago to my Chiswick neighbourhood. One of our locals, a rather cynical food critic, said that Bill’s had a policy of being very good at first. It then, once it had established a clientele, proceeded to hoodwink the punters with lousy value for money and worse service. And so it has been. I remember having gone to Bill’s with my wife a day after it opened in Chiswick when I had a delicious fish sandwich served by a charming Spanish waitress. Today, that fish sandwich is mostly bread and it contains the cheapest of Asda’s fish fingers. This evening, New Year’s Day, I went with my family. At least half of the items were crossed off the menu, something I excused reluctantly since it was New Year's Day. Better planning would have prevented this or else management should have opted to shut the premises. Badly done. I asked if the hake with avocado salsa was too spicy and was told it was mild. When it came, it was inedible and it was like biting into a chili. My kind daughter passed me her rump steak, but that turned out to be a leathery and tasteless lump accompanied by soggy fries. Desserts were equally dismal. The star attraction, though, was our waitress whose brain only allowed her to indulge in autonomic functions like breathing and walking. Bill’s is continuing to disappoint the locals and will soon suffer the fate of all bad restaurants that come to Chiswick. The day it closes its doors cannot come a moment too soon.

Lemon meringue pie dessert is to die for!!!
Very friendly , quick service , my third visit to a Bills ( second to the Chiswick branch) . Just popped in for a quick snack with a friend and found it hard to leave. Although it was a very busy time the service was quick and the food was warm and fresh. The Lemon squid melt in the mouth and the best sweet potato chips I've ever had. The lemon meringue dessert was delicious and worth a visit for it alone. I think in future I will find it very hard to pass by without popping in for a coffee and the lemon meringue dessert .

I expected more
On a New Year's day Bill's was the busiest restaurant in the area, and I was attracted by the soft light, trendy atmosphere and – yes, I know, it is sentimental – the candles on the tables. Firstly, the food – I ordered a crispy duck salad as a main course, was really disappointed with it as it lacked flavour and distinction, I think it could have been made so much more interesting. The fries were too oily but not that bad. The best of the evening was the coffee – I must say it was quite good. The service: I waited about 20 minutes for 6 olives to arrive, and half an hour for the meal, this is at the time when the restaurant was half empty. It was difficult to gain attention of the staff, I was served by different waiters all the time, The best thing about this restaurant is the atmosphere – it is relaxed, upbeat, the staff are very friendly. There is something about the interior design of the restaurant which makes if a very pleasant and attractive setting. I do not think I will be back for dinner until they update their menu as there is a lack of freshly cooked food. According to my waitress the most popular choices in the restaurant are the fish pie and the duck pie which we know would take ages if cooked from fresh.
