Run by the team behind Cargo and The Shoreditch, Ballyhoo (formerly The Bowery) is the result of some substantial remodelling. So what’s the ballyhoo all about? A post-industrial post-punk disco in dark leather and metallic hues with chinoiserie accents, this venue aims to bring some E1 vibes to Holborn with its late-night party/dance bar and intimate live space showcasing indie and folk bands. Entry is free for most gigs, and major sporting events are screened live too. There’s no food at the moment, but drinks take in affordable wines, a wide range of beers, and tiki-style cocktails such as fog cutter, velvet mai tai and bee’s knees – plus a choice of sours including pisco-based West End. Happy hour’s hook is ‘two for £10’ cocktails and a ‘four for a tenner’ lager deal.
