SquareMeal Review of Mulberry Street

Bronze Award

Elvis would have loved Mulberry Street, not least because the leather booths are the same colour as his treasured purple Cadillac. Although the menu at this groovy, New York-style pizzeria boasts an assortment of pastas & salads (not to mention sautéed king prawns arrabbiata & ‘Milly’s meatballs’), the real draw is the line-up of 20-inch, thin-crust pizzas ranging from a basic margherita to the ‘chicken parmesan’. Kids are distracted by the vintage Tom & Jerry cartoons on the TV screens, while grown-ups knock back bottles of Brooklyn lager or shots of hard liquor. If your appetite isn’t sated by a New York ‘hot’ with extra pepperoni & jalapeños, you can always make like the King & round things off with a whopping hot fudge sundae or chocolate pizza.

best meal this holiday

Came here with my boyfriend today and absolutely loved it. I had the spaghetti pomodoro and he had the chicken parmesan pizza which he said may have been the best Italian food he'd ever had. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was great.

What a shame this once-lovely restaurant seems to have changed management. Gone are the 20", authentic NY-style pizzas; they have been replaced with plain, UK-style pizzas with bland crusts. The garlic bread was obviously some garlic and butter on a pre-made pizza base and was as hard as a rock. Staff service was terrible, and this NY ex-pat will be looking for another pizza place to get my fix. Do not recommend anymore.

A bit of an evergreen favourite this one, for me and my wife, as we live just around the corner. I love the sautéed king prawns to start with followed by a Four Seasons pizza, which I always share with my wife as it is rather large! For dessert I usually take the home made icecream which is very good. I think the place represents very good value for Notting Hill, which these days, is saying something!

I work in Notting Hill and I've eaten here dozens of times. I love the pizzas, especially the New York Hot. The 20? size are very big but one between two is pretty much spot on. I do sometimes order a whole one for myself (please don't judge me!) and if it's too much I usually take the rest home and it warms up very nicely in the oven. My other favourite is the meatball hero sandwich (sorry Subway but they got you nailed!) – add parmesan from the shakers and it's absolute heaven!

I have had a delivery on two occasions from this company. The first was booked over the internet from their website – it arrived an hour early. The second was booked over the phone at 1800 for a 2030 delivery – it arrived at 2115. Their excuse was they were busy… and perhaps the height of arrogance was told ‘that everyones knows if you want one of our pizzas you must be prepared to wait and accept it will be late.’ When it did arrive it was obvious the pizza box was stood on its side as the pizza was a soggy mess at the botton of the box. This is a company that clearly doesn't care about its punters – so i don't feel to bad about giving it such a harsh yet accurate review.

I've been frequenting this place since it opened, and although a recent price raising has made the value not quite as good as it once was, the pizza keeps getting better and better. True NYC style pies and flavours in a funky and fun atmosphere, and even better-they deliver locally! Take a miss on the weekend brunch though-not that great and slightly over priced. Reccomend booking, especially on the weekends. Service is friendly, but can be a bit slow at times. They also have the New York Daily News available at the counter!
