About

This authentic Korean spot serves up meat and seafood cooked barbecue-style at the table, located in the heart of Soho, just around the corner from Golden Square and Regent Street, is frequented by Korean celebs who find themselves in the area and looking for a tasty meal.

Simple decor is what you’ll find inside this corner spot restaurant, which is situated about equal distance from both Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus Underground Stations. Each table has its own grill in the middle, designed for Korean BBQ (gogi-gui), which is the method of cooking marinated meat at table.

Closed on Mondays, Myung Ga is open between 12 and 3pm Tuesday to Friday for lunch, and then from 5.30 to 11pm for dinner. On Saturdays and Sundays there are no break times in between dinner and lunch, and the restaurant is open from midday until 11pm and 9.30pm respectively. Because of the break times, it’s best to make a reservation in advance, especially if you want to try the ginseng chicken, which needs an hour to cook. The perfect place to dine with friends, or break the ice with acquaintances, the set up of the Korean BBQ is warm and welcoming. Traditional kalbi, bulgogi, and deungsim are all available to barbecue, along with chicken, prawns and squid.

You can't visit Myung Ga without trying out one of the Korean soups, which include kimchee jjigae. Renowned Korean dishes of bibimbap, pajeon and rice-cake are also found on the menu, served up under the leadership of the head chef, who has owned the restaurant since 1990. Finish up your meal with some of the restaurant's popular mango mossi, and wash it down with a plum soju or beer.

Forced to pay tip even when not satisfied
We have been at this restuarant so many times since about 2006. Food quality and customer seems to be deteriorating. After having the same meal in the past 2 other visits, we told the waitress that the food does not taste as good as before and maybe they changed chef. We were told it is the same chef. Then we got the bill, I do not really want to pay the high service charge. The manager came over and told me it is mandatory even if you are not satisfied with the food and service. She was very arrogant. To avoid any further inconvenience, I just paid and left. DO EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT. IT IS AWFUL AND EXPENSIVE. There are other better Korean restaurant in the area.

Forcing customers to pay service charge
We have been here so many times. This time the servings are smaller, the food no longer have taste, the manager is very arrogant and we are forced to pay service charge even if we did not like how we were treated by the manager when we questioned the very high mandatory tip of 12.5%. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS RESTAURANT. You are better off at BurgerKing where at least the burgers have some taste.

Terrible service and raw food
We didn't make a reservation, but we were willing to wait for 45 min to get a table for three. After 45 min we were still waiting so we asked when the table will be free since we saw several table weres free. Apparently they forgot about us and asked us to wait for another while. After 10 min more we finally got seated. No sweat we thought, we could finally order our dishes. The seafood pancake was a bit off than the usual ones, but it still tasted good, only we couldn't find any seafood in it despite it was supposed to a seafood pancake. I kept wondering whether they didn't make a mistake. Since another dish wasn't also wrong. We ordered thinly sliced beef for the BBQ, but instead we received the thick beef slices. But we didn't want to ruin our dinner so we kept quite about it and decided just to enjoy our meal. The other meats for the BBQ have also arrived so the waiter started to BBQ these for us. We have already noticed from the previous sliced beef that just a split second they would turn the meat over, since it was only beef than it was still okay. But the other meats as pork and chicken they would do the same. Even though everyone knows that these have to be well done. After seeing that these meat are not well done. The chicken was still raw and the pork was still bloody. We turned on the heater again to grill them a bit longer. Not a minute longer, even though seeing us grilling them again, the waiter came back and turn off the heater again. It was like they couldn't care less that the meat weren't well done, whether it was pork of chicken. It felt like they were rushing us to finish all the dishes as we set down, because more people came in to wait for a table. Overall the service was very poor and the service fee was standard in the charging bill. The prices are also higher compared to other Korean restaurants. Disappointing was also the absence of small dishes which were usually provided at the beginning, like little bowl of kimchi, sour cucumber, etc. Even though the restaurant survived since 1990, it would properly be, because it was better located than the other Korean restaurants. If you really want to eat good Korean food, you can do much better at Arang (9 Golden Square, not much further away than Myung Ga) and the prices are much more faire. And if you want to eat just Bibimbap then you can go to Bi Bim Bap (Soho) at Greek street.

Terrible management, overcharged, wasted police time!
After frequenting it and recommending it for over ten years I'm afraid to say I will ACTIVELY DISCOURAGE people from eating at MYUNG GA Korean restaurant on Kingly St in Soho. After overcharging our group (and we're all quite good at adding up!) the manager CALLED THE POLICE when we quibbled politely about the bill. Initially they refused to remove the over-charge (which we proved we were correct about by consulting the menu), so we said we'd just not-pay the service charge (optional by law anyway). I can't stress enough how measured, sober and polite we are, this was not a ‘lads night out’ rowdy group by a long shot. But anyway, the manager exploded at this point (not literally unfortunately) and ran screaming and shouting to pick up the phone and dialled 999 to summon the police, actual police, blue lights, nee-naw, ‘now then now then’ POLICE. (They never turned up obviously as they have genuine police work to do and don't need time wasters like Myung Ga management stopping them from doing their work). Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Food is fine, quite a home-made taste, not too overpowering or artificial as some other Korean restaurants. But then, nothing spectacular beyond that. Service is good, although no better than other Korean restaurants. The restaurant is quite loud and stuffy, and is slightly on the expensive side given what it has to offer. Overall, it is an OK restaurant, but not impressive enough to consider a revisiting.

What a terrific place, the food was wonderful and the service polite, efficient and faultless. I took a friend here who spent a year living on the chinese/korean border and had a real hankering for the rice bowls that she had come to know and love. She was lost for words with how great the food was. For a fantastic taste experience try the carpaccio of beef (the description of raw beef mixed with egg can sound a little scary), the combination of pear, cucumber and beef was out of this world, and i have rarely had beef that was so tender and melt in the mouth. Followed by the ubiquitous bbq (we opted for marinaded pork), again the quality of the ingredients shone though, wrapped in lettuce with a little soy and miso paste, i could have eaten it all night! Finally, we topped the meal off with a couple of the bibibap rice bowls, and i can now see just why my friend raves about them. In all, a great meal – complimented by genuinely friendly staff who are polite, efficient, and happy to leave you to eat (and chat) at your own pace. One of the main criticisms with some of the korean restaurants in london is that the staff are surly and just want you to eat and get out – not so here. And the price for all this food and service – a lot less that we thought! Including tip, 2 starters, a pork bbq, 2 rice bowls and 2 glasses of aloe juice (think sherbet rainbow straw emptied into water and served over ice) it came to less than £25 a head. I will definitely be heading back.

I love Myung Ga. This was the place that I really discovered Korean Food. The best thing that you have to try is the Bulgogi Beef, marinated slices of beef cooked on the BBQ on your table. you wrap the beef in a lettuce leaf with some miso paste. A-mazing. Also the spicy beef soup (hot!), kimchi pickles and the spinach and beansprout namul. All delicious. For healthy types its great because Korean food is actually very lean indeed. It's not a trendy restaurant, but it is nice inside with attractive features and low lighting. I always enjoy it immensely and the food is fab.
