About

This quaint countryside pub has everything you’d want from a cosy spot in Weaverham, from fireplaces to large gardens out back and quirky vintage-inspired furniture, making it a quintessential British pub. The Hanging Gate’s interior is filled with country-style knickknacks and features from deer antlers and framed photographs of the area, to exposed roof beams, mismatched furniture and a mini library. If you’re bringing the kids, they can play in the garden and tuck into their own menu while parents relax at benches under umbrellas.

During summer months, bring your dog along and sip on the gin of the week with a paired tonic on the lawn. Open from midday, you can enjoy food until 9pm at this welcoming pub. The Hanging Gate pours a range of cask ales and has a selection of international vino on the wine list, as well as some low alcohol options.

For lunch, munch on a baguette, sarnie or jacket potatoes with your choice of toppings or choose something from the bar nibbles menu with breaded halloumi sticks and pigs in blankets on the cards. We recommend trying the homemade sausage roll which is served with English ale chutney.

From the à la carte, start with a homemade soup, Scottish mussels or bacon and Stilton jacket potato wedges. Move onto pub fare such as beer battered fish & chips and the beef and ale pie. Desserts include ginger rum and raisin pudding and a real countryside classic in the form of a strawberry clotted cream tart.

Head here on a Sunday to order a traditional Sunday roast of lamb, beef, turkey or a cumin, butternut and lentil wellington served with both roasted and mashed potatoes, cauliflower cheese, veggies and Yorkshire pudding. End your time at the pub with a local walk with the Hanging Gate’s own trail guide.
