Like its siblings on Fleet Street and London Wall, the third branch of Coco di Mama is an exuberant gingham-clothed takeaway-cum-café dishing up quick-fire Mediterranean victuals with a winning smile. Founded by a couple of ex-bankers who left the financial world to pursue their passion for Italian food, it takes sourcing seriously – note the coarse dry-cured salami napoli, the single-estate olive oil and the slow-dried Sicilian ‘al bronzo’ pasta. The latter plays a starring role on the menu, and turns up with everything from ‘majestic meatballs’ to slow-cooked bolognese and pesto sauces. Artisan baguettes, soups and salads provide the back-up, with ‘total tiramisu’ or Sicilian lemon cheesecake satisfying those with a sweet tooth. Excellent coffee and great breakfasts (including stone-baked pastries) are ideal for local workers and tourists heading for nearby St Paul’s Cathedral.
