Incognico (117 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, London, WC2H 8AD)

I ate at Incognico on the evening of Friday 17 September with two friends, booking a special offer of 3 courses from the a la carte menu + a glass of champagne for £27.50. It has an excellent central London location, which was the main reason for booking. The food was average (can't see how they could've charged £18 for the mains). The business model though is clearly for the restaurant to make as much money as possible from extras: wine was minimum of £30; side orders were £4.50, etc. Our bill came to £150 including service. Not great value for money.

One thing I've found is that this restaurant is reviewed very positively on SquareMeal and other restaurant search website (e.g., TopTable). Makes me think that the restaurant owners are pushing up Incognico's ratings themselves…

Hat & Feathers Dining Rooms (2 Clerkenwell Road, London, EC1M 5PQ)

My colleague and I had lunch at the Hat & Feathers on 3 July 2009. The menu described in the review above is very out of date. It would appear that this place has had a change of management. It currently serves badly cooked barbeque food for £10 (including a bottle of beer or glass of wine). The service was awful. It feels very much like a pub that's about to go out of business.
