1901 at Andaz (Andaz, 40 Liverpool Street, London, London, EC2M 7QN)

A stunningly beautiful room, the setting is the king here. Food was competently cooked (scallops, then beef), the ingredients clearly being of high quality. Staff were charming and efficient. Yes it is expensive but the opulent setting makes it feel well worth it.
I would certainly return, either with clients or for a quiet treat with friends.

Manicomio (6 Gutter Lane, London, EC2V 8AS)

Came here for drinks in the bar and ended up staying for dinner as it was such a nice place to be! Enjoyed the most spanking fresh monkfish and broccoli, with some very good wine. The upstairs round bar area is particularly nice, with its view down Gutter Lane. A great place for a post-work dinner.

Baltic (74 Blackfriars Road, London, London, SE1 8HA)

Wow, from the outside this place looks like a small, unexciting bistro but then you walk through to the restaurant area and it's just stunning, with a beautiful glowing amber light installation. Both the cocktails and sublimely light blinis we shared at the bar were excellent. Skipped starters and went straight to main when my shoulder of lamb was the tenderest I have ever had. We just had a tiny space left for the apple pie with cinnamon ice-cream which was buttery and delicious. Service was attentive but also relaxed and friendly throughout. Really can't fault this place at all – it's well worth the reasonable (for London) prices and it'd definitely going on my favourites list.
