1901 at Andaz (Andaz, 40 Liverpool Street, London, London, EC2M 7QN)

The room itself is very grand and there's a good atmosphere and it kind of works very well in a strange way. The service was fine although the waitress couldn't seem to understand why we wanted to chat before ordering and hence asked us every 30 seconds.
The food and drink is way over priced and very small portions. The chef tries to combien very unusual flavours and they just don't work.
No one should serve delicate fish with a kind of tomato relish and greasy cream sauce, the vegetables well deliberately well undercooked and cold with more grease.
I can't criticise totally as they experience was enjoyable but maybe that was the company. The Recommended Austrian wine was lovely and good value, the Billy Cart Salmon champagne was overpriced at £20 a glass.
The potential of this place is enormous but they need a new chef.

The Steak Exchange (2 Exchange Square, London, London, EC2A 2EH)

Standing around waiting for 5 mins while staff talked to each other was not the best start. The optional £30 lobster with each steak tasted ok although only being provided with a fork for the claws proved interesting. Having to wave each time to get get served was extremely annoying.
We were recommended Pave rump and opted for that along with a ribeye, both medium rare. The pave was not to my liking and tasted more like liver, I do like game but this was not pleasant. It was cooked perfectly well and seemed succulent.
The ribeye was overcooked and nothing special, fatal for any steak restaurant. Salad was small and expensive and the fries whilst flavoursome lacked crunch. The saving grace was a lovely Bordeau, very cheap at £28.
Unless I heard better I'd never go back, far too many to choose from these days. Should have guessed with a name that belongs in the 1980's.
