La Poule au Pot (231 Ebury Street, London, SW1W 8UT)

Wonderful dark French venue which is ideal for a romantic meal for two, especially in winter. It is Pimlico's French gastronomic retreat and serves really rustic food. Good wines, but a little pricey.

Manicomio (6 Gutter Lane, London, EC2V 8AS)

Great place for lunch, either downstairs in the bar area or, more formally, upstairs in te bright restaurant. There is also another floor above with a further bar where you can enjoy a few drinks or cocktails midday or evening. Really high quality Italian dishes and delicious cold cuts served in an appetising way. There is always a really lively atmosphere and teh service is generally very good.

Ealing Park Tavern (222 South Ealing Road, London, W5 4RL)

This used to be a pub called the Penny Flyer and has now been converted to an excellent Gastropub. Inside the Victorian interior service is excellent and the food generally reliable. The atmosphere is good as the restaurant and pub are generally busy. A good venue for a meal out locally with friends or family.

Coq d'Argent (1 Poultry, London, EC2R 8EJ)

Great venue for either drinks inside or outside on the terrace. What better way to while away an hour and to put the credit crunch into suspense than to sup champagne up above the hustle and bustle of Bank and Cheapside. Food is good too and lunchtime Coq au Vin is really excellent on a cold winter's day.
