Santa Lucia (2 Hollywood Road, London, SW10 9HY)

Hard to beat in value for money. Good Italian food, relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and easy to visit again and again. The wine list has good rustic Italian varieties that work perfectly with a pizza.

Yashin Sushi (1a Argyll Road, London, London, W8 7DB)

The prices are high but the food is a new experience and worth it. The neon sign above the sushi bar says “No Soy Sauce” and it is amazing what a difference this makes. Truffle in sushi? Delicious and simply one example of the difference between this place and the hundreds of Japanese restaurants around London serving highly predictable food on a conveyor belt. The staff are young, energetic and have that healthy idealism about what they serve that makes for great food and a fun atmosphere.

Palm Restaurant (1 Pont Street, London, London, SW1X 9EJ)

The prices are very high, the food is mediocre and the service is non-existent.
For £17 you receive a lobster salad with virtually no lobster, cheap tinned asparagus (asparagus was in season when we went!) and cheap black olives (black olives with lobster!). The creamed spinach with “Reggiano Parmigiano” was cloyingly heavy and the steak was tough and lacking in flavour. The tomato and onion salad was good except for the sprinkling of cheap, acidic blue cheese. The “chimichurri” was quite tasty, however we use this word in quotation marks because it was not actually chimichurri, it was a thick red concoction made primarily with tomato paste.
The waiter ignored us throughout dinner and we kept having to chase other waiters to get service.
