Bleeding Heart (Bleeding Heart Yard, London, London, EC1N 8SJ)

This really is a hidden gem and has quickly become one of my favourite restaurants in London. The restaurant , due to its many rooms, is perfect for any occasion from a romantic dinner to a business lunch.

The food is always of a high standard and has a broad menu to cover most tastes.
On this occasion I started with the scallops, perfectly cooked and displayed in the shell. For main I had beef cheeks in a red wine jus – tender and flavoursome.
The cheese board is as extensive as I have ever seen. My partner had the fondant. This means you will need to wait around 20 minutes as they are cooked to order but it is definitely worth the wait.

Service is attentive but not obtrusive and you are allowed to move at you own place.

If you haven’t been – go !!!

For a more casual experience try the bistro or tavern. They all deliver quality food in a great atmosphere.

Aubergine at the Compleat Angler (Marlow, Buckinghamshire, SL7 1RG)

Having being to the Chelsea original I had high expectations and was not disappointed in any way.

The restaurant is relatively small but the atmosphere is perfect for a romantic meal or a meal with friends. The only downside is that we were situated next to a false wall which connected with the lounge area. A large group on the other side were noisy and this clearly audible on some occasions.

The service was first class, attentive and always willing to meet your needs. Being interested in cheese, the waiter spent 15 minutes explaining the vast cheese selection and some of its history (as I requested)

The food was sumptuous and what you would expect with everyone on the table discussing just how good it was and how we wished we could order everything !!!

A must visit- it can only be a matter of time until it achieves a Michelin star.

Butlers Wharf Chop House (36e Shad Thames, London, London, SE1 2YE)

Having being a regular at the Chop house I have to say that the new menu leaves a lot to be desired (The head chef changed around three months ago). No longer are you able to order sumptuous steaks (not one on the menu) or some other true Brtish classics. Amazing considering the restaurant name and its heritage.
In my view the chop house has now joined the long list of gastro pub style restaurants with reasonable food but nothing more.

Bread – where has the famous bread gone – now only a small selection.
Overall no one complained about the food but we all felt that there was nothing special and you could find this style and competence of food in thousands of restaurants across the country.
We didn't stay for dessert .

We were also originally placed in a table that was situated in a position whereby the door being opened meant an icy blast across the table, chilling all to the bone. Even the restaurants own staff said they would not dine on a table like that !!! Having complained we were moved but after many conversations and around forty five minutes. Not a good start to the evening.

Its a shame, what was once one of my favourite resturants for a casual evening meal has now become one that I will not visit again. On a positive note, the view of Tower bridge remains stunning.
