The Wolseley (160 Piccadilly, London, London, W1J 9EB)

The Wolesley is like a pair of old slippers- comfortable ,reliable and a favourite. The food is of a consistent quality whether it is breakfast, lunch, tea or dinner. It is definitely the best venue in London for breakfast that is for sure. Their kippers are first class. As for other meals their Schnitzel is simply the best. And I should know, my mother was Viennese. I also highly recommend their Steak Pie which is a special in the winter months. Their roast beef on Sunday exceptional- I know Michael Winner has said it is the best in London and he is probably right. Desserts and pastries are very tasty and their chocolate and raspberry slice is to die for. They are welcoming and the service is efficient. And talking of welcoming, unlike Gordon Ramsay whom I mentioned in a previous post, you will generally find Mr. Corbin or Mr. King there checking up that all is well. The location was my bank years ago- I definitely prefer it as it is now!

The Belvedere (Off Abbotsbury Road, Holland Park, London, W8 6LU)

I thought I should update this and point our that it is still just as good but Paolo the Maitre D has left and I have yet to meet the new one.

The Belvedere is one of our family favourites for Sunday Lunch and while we eat there on other occasions it has to be one of the best value Sunday lunches available in London. There is a wide choice on the set menu with good choices in all 3 courses. And where else in London can you get decent Kipper Pate? Not everyone's favourite, maybe, but it is mine! Kipper Pate, Roast Beef and chocolate marquise or apple crumble all for £29. That is pretty amazing. Wines are at a range of prices and wines by the glass have a decent choice. During the week there are also good value set menus and the a la carte is average for a restaurant of this type. The service is prompt and Paolo the Maitre D always welcomes.

Mews of Mayfair (10-11 Lancashire Court, London, W1S 1EY)

The set price lunch at Mews has to be 1 of the best value set lunches in London. For £19 I had Smoked salmon, Steak and a delicious rasberry and lemon mousse shortbread. Beautifully cooked and served in a lovely environment in the heart of the west end it's not to be missed.
