Read the thread June 2011Square Meal was originally a London restaurant review magazine, which I guess is why the capital features most. It's some job (and expense!) sending people all around the country, but over the years I have noticed more and more restaurants are being featured further afield. More
Read the thread March 2011Try Mar Terra, 14 Gambia Street, SE1. Right by Southwark tube station.
Totally authentic, Spanish owners (who are actually working in the restaurant), great Spanish wines, and if you are luck to go on a sunny warm afternoon, they have a little garden at the back.
We find the atmosphere better at lunch than dinner. More

Read the thread December 2010Have a look at The Portman in Seymour Place, just by Marble Arch. Their small upstairs dining room is very cosy looking, I had a look up there when we went in for a drink last week. More
Read the thread August 2010We were in a restaurant having dinner next to a table of about 5 adults one of them gave his mobile to the only young boy who was with them. He went through all the different ring tones on the mobile one by one, much to the great amusement and delight of the people at his table… Nice More
Read the thread August 2010I think it is so that the customer doesn't get to little than they should, which is fair enough, but for some reason it really annoys me too, and yet there is no logical reason for it to be aggravating! More
Read the thread August 2010How about Babylon in Derry Street W8, they have a fantastic roof garden and great views. We have had quite a few family Sunday lunches with a big age range there and it has always been very good.
We live in the centre of London and have only had one Christmas Day actually at home. Taxis are easy to gpick up, you just have to pay a little more, but you could try arranging for one of the 6 seater Hackney cabs that are now available in London, might be worth contacting Datacab who are one of the companies that you can hire from to see if you can ensure you get the 6 seats. Otherwise, there is one good private hire company called Addison Lee who have people carriers so you could contact them for a price in advance. There is no other private hire company I would recommend, and would advise you to steer clear from them if they are not recommended to you by someone.
One other thing you might like to do on Boxing Day is go to the theatre as it is can be good fun if you choose a matinee, then you have something to break the day up. More
