Tayyabs (83 Fieldgate Street, London, E1 1JU)

After a long wait for a table, and an even longer wait for the food, I was not impressed with what we got. I had heard such great things about Tayyab and went in with extremely high expectations. I came out disappointed and my mouth was on fire!!! I love spicy food but practically lost all my tatstebuds after the first bite. I was not very impressed with the service – it felt more like a factory churning out Kebabs rather than a restaurant with a host. It may be part of its ‘charm’ but there is a fine line between efficiency and feeling like you are being shoved around.

One thing that did surprise me was the great value for money. They probably save a lot on personnel.

Bodean's Poland Street (10 Poland Street, London, W1F 8PZ)

Bodean's is not the best BBQ I have ever had but it definitely felt good to get a taste of ‘home’. Out of all the dishes we ordered, the pulled pork was the best and I would definitely have that the next time I am there. I ordred the baby back ribs – they were OK but just not as tender as I was hoping for. I am used to BBQ meat being so tender that it just falls off the bones and I had to struggle a bit. On the plus side, the sauces are incredible!! I could just eat those out of the bottle!!

The service was good and the atmosphere was very unglamorous but who wants glamour when you've got BBQ sauce all over your face!!

Quaglino's (16 Bury Street, London, SW1Y 6AJ)

Beautiful space but Quaglino's clearly screams of a restaurant that is past its prime. Out of about 10 dishes we ordered, they had run out of at least 5! And this was a Friday night. I was not impressed. Even when our second food choices arrived, they were lacking in flavour and boring.
